Overall, the experience was great. My only bad comment is that the beef plates, the beef was really tough...but overall, the family gave 4 stars for the food. The flavor was great. The service was sweet and the restaurant had an African feel about it. It was in the French quarter. Nice Christmas eve dinner.
We're in New Orleans for a long weekend and wanted something interesting that we can't get back home. New Orleans is famous for many things but vegetarian food isn't one of them.
This restaurant ticked every box - the food was flavorful and different, the service was friendly and helpful and the meal, while not cheap, was certainly not expensive.
Cameroon and Benin restaurant with huge veggie selection. Nice!
Really enjoyed this African restaurant in the French Quarter. Had the namesake dish and a second entree with black eyed peas along with a lentil soup starter. Unique flavors and presentation, easy to see a Caribbean connection to West African cuisine. Glad we found this spot. The crew is small so service is not super fast if it's busy.
As a customer of this restaurant since 2002 Bennachin has been my favorite restaurant and a place I have to visit often. The owner and her family as well as the ambiance of the setting transforms you to Africa when you enter the door. The food is consistently phenomenal, I always suggest the Sisay Singho Singh or the Jamaican Chicken both pictured below. Add in a Hibiscus drink and you are set for the day.
Amazingly delicious, well portioned and wallet-friendly gem in the heart of a place where many of the other eateries feel too fried/salty/oily or designed to be tourist traps.
We had the Jamaican Chicken and Kone Ni Mak (beans in a yummy tomato and onion stew with fried plantains and a coconut rice). Highly recommend trying out their iced herbal tea as well. If you go during their lunch special, each plate is only $14.
Stumbling upon this lively place that you could tell was run by people who genuinely are proud of the establishment and the food they make was one of the happiest accident we made on this trip. Thank you for the delicious food!
Very cute place. The owner / waiter was super friendly. And it was fun to try a cuisine I had never tried before.
I ordered a beef and spinach stew called Egusi. And my Mom ordered Jamaican chicken with rice. They had a lot of vegan and vegetarian options as well.
My only warning is: they mean business with the spicy. Think like Thai spicy. I regretted asking for medium instead of mild.
I had a wonderful experience here, the food is amazing and the staff is super sweet and really helpful. It’s a nice quiet and homey vibe very comfy and relaxing with the sounds of Afro best going in the background. After eating my egusi soup I wanted to lay down and fall asleep I almost forgot where I was. Now for the egusi soup and fufu it was so good and the plate came steaming hot I got the medium spice bowl and it was amazing not too spicy at all and full of flavor. I LIVED for the sweet plantains I had to order more before leaving I was happy. You guys are doing an amazing job thank you for making me feel welcomed. 🍯💋💕
I went straight to the French Quarters to try their egusi soup with fufu. Overall pretty cool atmosphere and the wait wasn't long at all. I requested the egusi soup to be spicy and it was indeed spicy but next time I think I would maybe go mild or medium on spice level. Fufu was great as well. Next time, I plan on trying the Bennachin and Bennachin. 😉
